Introducing The Reforming Child Protection WIKI
"Before we can get down to the complex task of reforming the child protection system, deciding exactly what is to be reformed is a necessary step. First and perhaps foremost,
there is no child protection system. …" To read more,

The Reforming Child Protection WIKI focuses exclusively on serious discussion, ideas, suggestions, strategies, opinions, and views on reforming child protection at the local, state, and national levels in The United States. Increasingly, the media reports on calls from widely varying sources to reform all aspects of the public system intended to protect abused and neglected children with the goal of permanently keeping the young people out of harm's way.
We are told the system is broken and needs fixed (reformed). However, it is not clear how it got broken or who broke it. More to the point, it is not clear "the system" ever functioned adequately or successfully, from the point of view of those calling for reform. It is also not clear how the system would look or how it would function differently were it not in need of reform. How do we get from where we are to where we need to go and what will child protection look like when we get there?
This website is a WIKI. If you are not familiar with the format, it works like this. An author posts a page or series of pages relating to child protection to the site. Any site visitor may then read the post and, if desired, comment on the post. Additionally, any visitor may register and then edit the post, modifying, clarifying, expanding, or otherwise changing the text to improve the post. Through this collaborative process, the content of the post evolves to reflect the best thinking on the particular topic. Visit the category on
General Interest Pages to see the individual pages added to the wiki or
the category listing to see all wiki categories or multipage posts.
You may also add a new page to the post or create a new post on another topic. Please use an existing category or add a new category for your new post. Here are
SomeQuickTipsAndTricks for adding pages or categories. Any posts or comments contributed to the site should add to constructive reform. Many people have already told us the numerous ways in which they think the system is broken. We hear that. The need and challenge is to determine the best ways to fix it. Your contributions to that outcome are needed and valued.
There are links at the bottom of each post to comment on or edit the post. When editing or creating a post, the
FormattingRules are a helpful source for information about the wiki way of formatting your work. There is also a formatting toolbar on each page available when editing the page. That likely makes editing simple and easy. Visit
WikiCategories to see how to create a new category or to be sure your new post is added to the correct category.
The
WikiAdmin has started the wiki with a series of pages in
CategoryChildProtectionParadigm. To read the first page in the post, please go to
ReformingWhatSystem where you can begin your consideration of the expanding child protection paradigm. Your comments and edits are both invited and valued. Please also add any pages (sections) to the post you believe add to our understanding of the paradigm and the future course of child protection.
A Cautionary Note
This wiki is an open project and anyone may add his (or her) content to it. This means there is very little control over what is added. The wiki philosophy is somewhat of an exercise in good faith. If you see anything you believe is incorrect or inappropriate, please edit the page to correct the error or replace the inappropriate content. The wiki is primarily maintained by users like you who are concerned about abused and neglected children, the future of child protection, and who want the best ideas and thinking to lead our ongoing discussion.
If you want to contact the
WikiAdmin, please send
an email.
It is also important to understand anything you contribute to the wiki results in fuzzyness with respect to the ongoing copyright of the content added. If this seriously concerns you, not participating in the ongoing discussion is likely your best choice.
